We have a look at the SWOT analysis of former champions U Mumba

Strengths:

Fazel:

Fazel

Fazel is arguably the best defender of PKL, the Iranian’s influence can be highlighted by the fact that in his 6 seasons in the PKL, Fazel has made the play-offs in each of those seasons. Despite being part of a supposedly weak U Mumba teams in the last 2 seasons, Fazel has helped them reach the play-offs leading from the front.

Abhishek Singh:

Abhishek Singh enjoyed a breakthrough season with U Mumba scoring 162 raid points, and only 6 raiders scored more points, highlighting his effectiveness. Abhishek continued his form in the Senior nationals outscoring both Rahul Chaudhari and Nitin Tomar. U Mumba’s fortunes in PKL 8 will depend on how Abhishek Singh fares.

Weakness:

Defensive Concerns:

Apart from Fazel, U Mumba do not have a dependable defender on paper. Right corner Rinku is talented but lacks top level experience, left cover Harendra failed to convince in PKL 7, while their right covers Ajeet, Ashish Kumar and Sunil Siddhgavali struggled badly in PKL7. If U Mumba are to go far, then 2 out of these 3 youngsters need to have dream seasons.

Opportunity:

Rinku Sharma/ Harendra Singh:

Right Corner Rinku Sharma and left cover Harendra are both talented, both have a chance to announce themselves in PKL 8. Rinku Sharma especially has high expectations of him after U Mumba bought him for 32 lakhs.

Threats:

U Mumba’s defence is completely dependent on Fazel for leadership and stopping opposition raiders, if Fazel suffers from form and fitness issues then U Mumba’s defence’s effectiveness will be considerably reduced

Ajith Kumar:

Ajith enjoyed a superb season with Tamil Thalaivas in PKL 7, however since then he has struggled with fitness issues which has impacted his performance. If Ajith does not recover his form and fitness, then U Mumba’s raiding will be largely dependent on Abhishek Singh.
