IPL 2019 is about to start and in this article, we look at each team’s strengths and weakness and give you a complete lowdown about the teams.

Chennai Super Kings:

SWOT Analysis:

Strengths Weaknesses

Core: Chennai Super Kings have retained their core players in the form of Dhoni, Raina, Jadeja, Faf, Bravo & M Vijay.

Batting Depth: They have an envious batting line-up with 8 different players managing 1000+ IPL runs.

Spin cupboard full: Chennai have plethora of options in their spin department. They have three of the four major types of spin bowler: off-spinner (Harbhajan), Legspinner (Karn/Tahir), left-arm orthodox (Jadeja).  With entirety of CSK’s home leg to be played at the slow Chepauk this will be a big advantage.

Creaking Joints: Chennai have 11 players who are aged 30 or above in their team. The average age of their squad is 29.7, the highest by a team in IPL. Can the squad last the distance without picking injuries?

Pace Issues: Lungi Ngidi missing out due to injury is a big blow for CSK’s hopes as he was by far their best fast bowler. The rest of the bowlers either lack experience or lack the numbers to justify their potential.  Their most experienced pace bowler Dwayne Bravo struggled last season, he was especially expensive at the death and his economy rate of 9.96 overall was his worst in an IPL season.

Opportunities Threats
Young Talent – Chennai have a good pool of young Indian players in their squad who would be looking to make their mark in this year’s IPL.

Suresh Raina: The South Paw has always starred in the IPL and with the Indian team’s no 4 slot yet to be decided, the 32-year old has a chance to add to the selectors headache by having another run filled season.

Wicket Keeping Blues – Yes, they might have one of the World’s Best wicketkeeper, but Dhoni is the only option that CSK have. If anything was to happen to him there would be a big void to fill and big shoes to fill.
