SWOT analysis Kolkata Knight Riders

Strengths

Variety in Spin attack

Varun Chakravarthy

In IPL 2020 KKR’s spinners apart from Varun Chakravarthy struggled to pick up wickets, Varun Chakravarthy picked up 17 wickets but the next best KKR spinner picked up just 5 wickets highlighting the over reliance on Varun Chakravarthy to pick up wickets in the middle overs. However, KKR this year have strengthened their spin attack by adding the experienced Harbhajan Singh, plus the presence of Kuldeep Yadav and the wily Sunil Narine makes KKR’s spin attack well rounded.

Explosive Middle Order

Russell

The presence of Morgan, Russell and Karthik means KKR possess the middle order capable of winning matches on their own if any one of them gets going, however Karthik and Russell struggled last season and KKR will need them at their best.

Weakness

Opening issues

KKR struggled with their opening combination in IPL 2020, and they were also one of the poorest teams in Powerplay in IPL 2020. KKR will need their openers to fire if they are to reach the play offs.

Opportunities

Chance for Kuldeep to Shine

Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav from being KKR’s ace wicket ticker was dropped from the starting 11 due to his lack of form. IPL 2021 offers him a chance to get back to his best and get back into contention for the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2021.

Threats

Injuries and Lack of Match Practice

KKR have quality spinners however, Varun Chakravarthy has not played for a long time due to injury, same is the case with Harbhajan Singh and Sunil Narine. KKR will hope their spinners shake off the rust quickly.
