Chelsea are currently in 4^th position and will look to address some issues in January Transfer Window to maintain their position and launch an assault in UEFA Champions League. We look at the positions Chelsea will look to rectify in the January Transfer Window.

Forward: When the season started Chelsea appeared to be well stocked for the centre forward positions with the likes of World Cup winner Olivier Giroud, Mitchy Batshuayi and Tammy Abraham who was back from loan. While Abraham has banged in goals regularly, when Abraham has an off-day Frank Lampard does not have goal scoring options to call upon with Giroud and Batshuayi struggling to find the net. With the 33-year old Giroud close to leaving according to reports Chelsea will look to find a forward capable of scoring from the bench or filling in Abraham is out or rested.

Left Back: Chelsea have struggled in the left back position as Alonso and Emerson Palmeiri both have struggled in the Premeir League. The problem Frank Lampard faces is that both Alonso and Emerson Palmeiri were more suited to the 3-4-3 position with their attacking threat from the wing back positions but in Frank Lampard’s 4 at the back both have struggled with the defensive responsibilities. Chelsea will prioritize a left back in the remaining days of the January Transfer Window.

Centre Back: Chelsea have lacked an experienced centre back to guide the youngsters and marshal the defence. With Rudiger struggling with injuries, Christensen still young, Kurt Zouma remains Chelsea’s best and the most dependable central defender. Chelsea’s need for a new centre back is highlighted by the fact that Frank Lampard’s side has conceded 30 goals so far, joint most among top 9 teams in Premier League 2020/21. Also, the London based club has kept just 5 clean sheets so far, the 12^th best which is unsatisfying to say the least. Frank Lampard will hope a find a dependable and experienced centre back to give a push to their top 4 hopes.
