Arsenal Transfer News: With the Gunners struggling at 10th position in the Premier League, we look at the positions Arsenal would look to strengthen in this January Transfer Window.
Defence: Gunners sold long serving defender Nacho Monreal who was a consistent performer at the left back position for Arsenal. The acquisition of Kieran Tierney and the presence of Sead Kolasinac meant the decision to sell Monreal made some sense. But injuries to Tierney and Kolasinac has meant the North Londoners are forced to utilize 18-year-old Bukayo Saka at the left back positions. Mikel Arteta will surely look for a left back in the remaining days of the January Transfer Window. Although, fans will welcome a central defender as well given Gunners leaky defence however, with David Luiz, Sokratis, returning Holding and Mustafi Arsenal at least have the numbers to fill in.
Centre Midfielder: Arsenal do have the likes of Torreira, Xhaka, Ozil and young Matteo Guendouzi but the problem for Gunners is that apart from Ozil all of them prefer to play deep and none of them offer a goal threat. Arsenal’s central midfielders have scored just 1 goal all season, the least by a team in Premier League 20/21. Mikel Arteta will hope to find a goal scoring central midfielder in the January Transfer Window.
Winger: Mikel Arteta has many problems to contend with the at the moment, but the lack of contributions from Arsenal’s wingers this season has been a huge issue limiting the Gunners goal threat. Nico Pepe has so far failed to justify his huge price tag. Aubameyang, Arsenal’s top scorer has been forced to play out wide due to lack of options there at the moment. Arsenal will have to address this issue in the January Transfer Window to boost the Gunners chances of finishing in the European slots.
Forward: Although Arsenal are blessed with fantastic strikers in Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazatte. The Gabonese forward has to play out wide due to lack of options in the left-wing positions and also to accommodate Alexandre Lacazatte in the starting eleven. With Alexandre Lacazatte suffering from a drought having not scored in 7 matches, the Gunners need to find to find an alternative forward to reduce the workload from Aubameyang and also the prepare for the eventual departure of one of Aubameyang and Lacazette.
